A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

Good data, in three steps.

Simple by design. Ready when you are.

  3. 03

    Keep things moving

Copy or download an array of JSON objects, one object for each data row.

A few things under the hood

CSV to JSON conversion rules
  • The first row supplies literal property names. Headers must be unique and non-empty; names and spaces are preserved. A UTF-8 byte-order mark is removed.
  • Quoted commas, doubled quotes, and embedded line breaks are supported. Every data row must have the same number of fields as the header. Quotes must enclose the entire field; text or spaces after a closing quote are rejected.
  • All values stay strings, including numbers, booleans, dates, leading zeros, and empty cells. No automatic type guessing.
  • Physically empty lines are skipped; explicitly quoted empty records are kept. A header-only CSV produces []. CR, LF, and CRLF record endings may be mixed. Delimiters are explicit; comma is the default.
  • Dot paths remain literal keys. Formula text is treated as plain data and is never executed.
  • All tools accept UTF-8 text up to 2 MB and nesting up to 80 levels. Results are limited to 8 MB. CSV tables are limited to 1,000,000 cells including headers; XML is additionally limited to 50,000 elements. Results are held only in this page’s memory; refreshing or navigating away clears them.
COMMON QUESTIONS

CSV to JSON questions

Answers for working with real data.

Will CSV to JSON preserve leading zeros?

Yes. Values remain strings: an identifier such as 00123 becomes "00123", not 123. The converter does not infer numbers, booleans, dates, or null values. Spaces and empty cells are also preserved.

Can I convert semicolon-separated or tab-separated data?

Yes. Choose comma, semicolon, or tab in the delimiter setting before converting. The first row must contain unique, non-empty column names, and every data row must have the same number of fields.

How do I include commas or line breaks inside a CSV value?

Enclose the whole field in double quotes and double any quote inside it. Quoted delimiters and line breaks are preserved. Quotes in the middle of an unquoted field, or text after a closing quote, are rejected.
